Tourism Roles and Economic Value

Needless to say, the Singapore Biennale not only brings in thousands and thousand of visitors but it also brings in money. Singapore Biennale worked together with the Art compass, so that this art exhibition was spread all over the world, attracting people who love arts.
This year, a record 505,200 visitors flocked to the 2008 Singapore Biennale, exceeding its original target of half a million. Though is including both local and overseas visitors, but more than half a million people definitely brings more tourism revenue to the country. The overseas visitors come will have to stay in hotels, thus this increase the hotel occupancy rate and also increase revenue for restaurants because they have to eat. Other than just lodging and food & beverage revenue, attractions in Singapore most likely will generate revenue as the visitors who came for the Biennale wouldn’t just come for Biennale itself. They will also use the opportunity to visit other places like Sentosa or Jurong Bird Park. As Singapore is a shopping paradise, visitors will also visit shopping places like Orchard Road and they wouldn’t waste the chance. This in turn also promote Singapore’s other attractions as well.

As for the locals, Singapore biennale create an opportunity for the locals to get a view of how and old supreme court looks like. Before that, how many people would have a chance to go into the Supreme Court? Such event also creates job opportunities and business opportunities for the locals.

The Singapore biennale was held from 11 September to 16 November 2008, over such a long period, this allows people to have flexibility in choosing which day they would prefer to come. And this would not restrain overseas people who are working; they can plan ahead and come in between this long period.

Besides the tourism and economic roles that Singapore biennale brings about, I would like to highlight the political impacts that this event has brought. Singapore biennale has successfully put Singapore into the art map of the world. People around the world who loves art and understand art would probably know Singapore is not only a clean and green city, but also a centre for visual art. This event has surely brought Singapore to the international stage of arts and makes Singapore known to more people around the world.
